I let my friend drive my car a while ago. We were on a pretty straight street and I told him to give it some gas so he put the pedal to the floor for a few seconds. I saw the tac go up to redline but it didnt go past it or jump back down and the car kept on accelerating and the engine didnt seem to cut out or anything. I was kind of nervous at first. Does the pcm recognize the redline and just cut-off and any further engine acceleration so that the engine won't damage, or could holding the throttle to the floor with the engine at redline damage it?

You have a fuel cut-off on your car. Which is what is the redline. When it gets to the fuel cut-off point, the computer quits giving fuel to your car, causing it to run lean, and then lose power, and lower RPM's. Then when they lower, and fall below the fuel cut-off point, it resumes normal engine operation. Which is what is perceived as when your car starts bouncing off the rev limiter. Thats what it is doing. BTW, it is not good for your engine to run rich-lean-rich=lean, etc etc. later,Jordan
15.09@90.7
1995 Camaro 3.4 M5
