This is some kind of a leak in the rear. ITs also my muffler and what looks to be a leak in the muffler too. And is it bad for all that to be that rusty? If yall could analyze these pictures and tell me what yall think. Thanks

Looks like your pinion seal is leaking. Seems to be a common occurance.

yep been there done that on my 94...

You can repalce the seal, I think its like $15-25, or you can just swap in a new rearend...

if you have a stock rear, I'd consider upgrading to a z28 rear.

Rust is no big deal. It's a 96 with the stock muffler, it's gonna happen.

The fluid on the muffler is probably oil from the pinion seal leak flowing back onto it while driving.

it sucks that 90% of fbodies get this.....three questions.

                    1. How do I check the pinion fluid.
                    2. This questions seems easy but just to make sure how would I know if I have a 1 piece or 2 piece drive shaft. Thanks
                    3. Should I even replace the seal since it will leak again?

Remove the fill plug on the top of the passenger's side of the pumpkin. Stick your finger in and see how far down it goes. Fluid should be right to the top of the hole.

Is there a big U-Joint in the center of the driveshaft, or is it one long solid piece?

Yes. Just because it leaks again for some people is no reason to not fix it on yours. They could have other problems that are causing it to leak.

Just to warn you, its not an "easy" fix... I would look into the option of replacing/upgrading the rear.

haha nevermind didn't even look at your sig...

Might be worth fixing it, its a pain in the ***, and I think you will likely have to buy specialty tools.

I know I had too... when I ran into this problem... and I already trashed something in my rear... so I said **** it and upgraded to 3.42s, LSD, and disc brakes, was cheaper then fixing my own.
