i know on install university there are a few free mods listed, most of them having to do with the area around the maft and such. anyway, are there any free mods for us 6er's to do that consist of parts around the tb--or heck, any parts at all? just wondering, cause it sure would be nice if we get a few hp out of our engines for not much money. thx guys.

Not much for the 96-97 3.8L V6's. The only one I know about is to remove the air silencer from beside the airbox near the fender. It's a tube with a rectangular cross-section that leads air from the fender wall into the air box.

I think one free mod consisted of moving your IAT sensor to a remote location on your air assembly where it would be cooler. I have a custom ram air box so i put it closer to the top where the air would read cooler. I heard you can replace a resistor in it too, i think it was a higher resistor so it would send a low voltage reading back to trick it into reading a cooler temp. I heard reports of some malfunctions though. I probably wouldn't recommend it, you would probably see hardly any gains anyway. Of course you can always get rid of dead weight in the car. You can take out your spare tire and jack for starters, every 100lbs is .1 second off your 1/4 time. By the look from your mod list you probably already got most of it already covered for free mods.

I've been researching it here and there.
Some are weight reduction and some are transfer and some are both
Weight reduction:
1) My jack and spare tire came out and a AAA plus card went in its place.
2) front sway bar, bolts and endlinks came off for 12 lbs
3) rear seats both came out plus the rear seat belts
4) front passenger seat has come out before 36 lbs?
5) thing that covers the trunk, gone, 1-2 lbs?
6)empty washer fluid resevoir, hey I do it
7) light weight a arms, 7.5 lbs each
8) light weight k member, 18 lbs
9) manual steering unit, 10.5 lbs
10) fiberglass hood (I'm told amost 30 lbs)
11) front bumper supports (I'm told 30-40 lbs?)
12) rear bumper supports (I'm told 20-30 lbs?)
13) weld drag lites for the front (15 x 3.5 rims with 175 80 tires weighing in at 26 lbs each)
14) 1 piece driveshaft (maybe 5 lbs?)
15) 2 seperate vibration dampening devices, one on torque arm (doughnut shaped) and one on the end of the tranny (just plain funky looking)
Weight transfer:
1) Both my amps and capictor are mounted in the trunk on the wall where you access the rear tail light assemblies.
2) No stb
3) 10 inch sub mounted in thunderform enclosure
I've done all of the above except for the hood and bumper supports.
I've got a weight reduction list from ls1.com
Let me find itThis is from the legend the colonel from ls1.com
Let's go on a diet...
(BTW, I have done nowhere near all of these ideas myself.)

Feel free to make suggestions and to add guesstimations or factual info as to how much weight any of the ideas remove. I'll add that info to the list.

James, I wasn't aware that you had the tubular K-member and control arms. Is this true?

ya know james, i'm suprised you haven't taken out the whole freaking stereo system by now. ya take out the amps/sub/speakers/head unit, that's prolly 30-50 lbs, wouldn't you say? that's .05 seconds off your et, and i bet you won't be too happy if you run a 12.04 now would you? ;)

Back when I was a mustanger, a lot of mustang drivers put their batteries in the trunk of their cars. Its supposed to lighten the load in the engine bay since its easier to pull then push! who knows, but hey it'll cost like what, 10 bucks for the wiring and a little of your time.
