I like quakerstare 5w30 full synthetic, Mobil 1 is probly better but its alot more expensive. I would definatly suggest going with a full synthetic oil. And a BOSCH oil filter, there my favorite.
I personally have found the Mobil1 and Valvoline Full Synthetic oils to be the best oil brands under $5/qt, and I run Mobil 1.
There are 2 filters for the 3.8, the AC Delco PF47 and PF52. The PF52 is a longer filter with more flow capacity and a longer life. It costs no more than the PF47 and is a much better filter. Cross reference the Delco PF52 to the brand filter you like - you'll find the longer filter in that brand no problem . Heck, the Walmart SuperTech Synthetic filters are really good, and theyre only $2 (made by champion).
Oil types such as 5w-30 and 10-30 are based on viscosity at a given temp. Each grade of oil has a range through which the oil works well at. Do a search on the web or get a book and it will tell you the temperature range and all the differences between the different types/grades of oil. 5w-30 has a wider range of acceptable temperatures to which it is suitable for. If you need more info then ask. I'll scan a page out of a book at oil types/grades and post it for you and anybody else that wants it. Maybe it should be placed in the tech database for reference.
P.S. I personally use only 5w-30 Mobile 1 either the drive clean formula or the regular full synthetic.

I thought that our cars recomend 10w-30 for normal
warm weather and 5w-30 for colder weather. As of filters i prefer FRAM, they are really good in my opinion.I got the oversized filter wich is the 3980 just in case someone wants it.
