• HO Alternator Install problem?

I installed a high output alternator the other day and for the most part the install went fine. The only problem I had was for some reason the alternator didn't line up with the alternator rear brace so I couldn't put the bolt on that attaches in the back.

I don't know if it was the alternator I bought or if maybe the rear brace somehow moved overnight(if you don't know, it's like a long black bar that's somewhat mounted to the engine). I took the busted alt off the night before and didn't put the new one on until the next day. I've been running it without it being attached to rear alternator brace and no problems so far.

I'm just wondering what you guys think I should do. This is just so typical of me whenever I work on my car. I always have these straight forward things I try to do and I always seem to run into stupid little crap things that won't let me do it.
Any help or input would be great thanks

Theres a similar thing on my 3.4, what i did is i first aligned it with the bad in the back, put that bolt in.

Then i did the rest of them.

Thanks camarowidbass, I got the alternator from the same company you got yours from. I love the new alternator, it works great!

How did you run the alternator to the battery? Right now I have it hooked up to a top mount battery post that I bought. Is that how you did it?

Thats how I did it too....its the easiest way to make it line up straight.

yea my battery has side, and top post terminals.

I went out and baught a top side terminal and i wired 4 gauge cable from the alt to the top post thing i baught.

You purchased your from www.4alterstart.com also? How much was yours? how many amps?

My total cost with shipping and everything was $222.99. But I also got their 4 gauge wire and I think that was like 20 bucks. So I think the alternator was like $180 or so. And it's a 180w alt. I already burned the 4 gauge wire in half though. :( Guess I should have secured it to soemthing, it got down by my exhaust manifolds and went bye bye. But I went to home depot and replaced it for only 4 dollars.

I love not having to worry about having enough power.

...and now comes the system
