  • Service Bulletin: Rear Hatch Leaks When Opened

(This was from a previous post from a GM tech.)

#00-08-57-004 Water Runs Out of Front Lower Corners of Rear Hatch When Opened (Install Sealer) - (11/29/2000)

Anybody else have this problem? It says to "install sealer". Anyone now how to procede with this fix. I would be afraid of sealing these drain holes and having the water freeze and destroy the rear hatch.

Buy a tube of body seal adhesive/sealant. This is the yellow stuff that some guys call gorilla snott. 3M makes the best stuff ... but the Permatex stuff is easiest to find at most parts stores.

Pull your hatch seal off. Clean the retaining groove with a mild detergent. Install the seal ... as you install the seal, apply a continuous bead of sealant into the retaining groove of the seal.

Be sure you read and follow all instructions and cautions given by the sealant manufacturer. Especially, if they give any special instructions for the curing process of the sealant.

    Good luck.
You can achieve anything for which you are prepared to pay the price.<br /> --ATTILA THE HUN

This isn't a dealer mandated fix?

Some customers may comment that when the rear hatch is opened, water runs out of one or both front lower corners. See Figure 1.

        Cause
Sealing operations may have been missed at two locations during assembly.
