Recently I've noticed a clunking noise that happens as I'm stopping. It seems to be coming from the rear. It doesn't always happen. It usually happens if I accelerate and then come to a quick stop right after accelerating.
Are there any common fbody problems that this could be? I have a brand new transmission so I don't think its the transmission. Anyone have any ideas?
how long have you had this car? you been driving it hard?

i also have this problem it sounds like the car is shifting into second ...its an auto rite? i tested it out in a parkin lot and it makes a loud thump/knock like a shift
No. Its not the breaks. It feels like something in the drivetrain. I can actually feel a hit, like one part is having to catch up to another part if that makes any sense. I think the gears may be the culprit like Fred is suggesting.
If it is the gears is this a costly repair? Is it likely that it will cause damage to other areas like the transmission?
i loosened my stock shock, couldnt get the nut all the way back on.
now it makes that clunking noise, anytime over bumps, or just if you push the car down.

Yeah, it's the same thing, but I just noticed it's a 97 so what I was thinking was wrong.
If you coast without applying the brakes at slow speed (<25 MPH) does it repetitively clunk? Or does it do it once?
It could be the U-joint which would also cause vibration at higher speeds, or the rear end. Perhaps the posi unit is shot or there is a lot of play in the pinion. At 110,000 miles either is a possibility.
Does it still do a 2-wheel burnout or not? If not, the posi unit is worn out and could be causing the clunk.
