• Someone Sould make a list for power windows!

I just spent a good 45 minutes searching on how to convert to power windows. Mabye I missed a thread but I cant find a single one that completely says everything that you need. Some say you need this, some say you dont, some say its already there. Im sure it wont take that long to make a list so could some please make one or atleast direct me to one thanks. I want to set it up for power windows and locks but i am only gonna do the windows for now.

So far I have that you need
2 Power window motors
2 power Window switches
2 Power lock switches(If doing locks too)
2 trim pieces for switches
2 lower door panel trim pieces(without hole)
2 wiring harnesses ( some say its already there and some say it isnt)

got power door locks? might as well do it at the same time since you have the door panels off.

I added the lower door panel trim pieces. The door panels are a two piece design right? So I dont have to get a whole new door panel just the bottom? I want to set it up for power locks but I dont have the money for the motors/ actuators and all that stuff right now.

have you used the power windows in a f-body before.

in my opinion its not worth the work.

Same with the power locks unless you get remote keyless or something.

Well my father owned an 87 camaro for 13 yrs and never replaced the power window motor once. Our new f body has power windows it 4 yrs old and works perfect. All my friends have power windows and complain that they have to roll them up when they get in my car.

87 camaro way diferent then 4th gen...

My 85 was 16 years old and only replaced one power window motor.

My 94 had crank windows.

My 2000, I had to replace the drive motor at 35,000 and 4 years.

I have freinds that have replaced 3 windows a side before. And even when they do work, they are slow as crap.

I mean do what works for you. I thought t-tops were worth the effort to cut into my car myself while many people would rather have a hardtop. Just want to let the voice of opposition into your head.

Ever try to roll the passenger window down driving???? That's why I like electric windows. I dont want to have to pull over to roll my damn window up if it starts to rain. I always wear my seatbelt. It is a pain in the a** to do driving. Iv'e had crank windows on a 3rd gen. Never again. Besides the damn knob came off in my hand everytime I used it. Replaced it three times.

Ya I got caught in the rain one time and it sucked. My passenger door panel was completely soaked when I got home.

i did a power window conversion. i didn't try using the stock parts. i got my window kit from a1electric.com and it was an easy install. on the site when you order the kit they let you choose wiring harnesses that hook directly to stock switches and they have little covers to hide where the cranks were. i think it was worth the trouble and they work great. the hardest part was finding a 12v source, which wasn't hard. but i didn't do a write up, sorry.

I'd do that, over a stock setup, anything is better then the motor.

I had no problems on that passenger window, but I am 6'5" so I have a little reach.
