  • coolant just stopped leaking from intake

a week or two ago i noticed some coolant pooling on the driver's side of the intake. i assumed it was just leaking from the upper intake. i wanted to be sure, so i toweled it all up and since then ive only driven it a couple of times for relatively short distances. i havn't noticed any more coolant leaking there though. is it possible that it would only leak when driven long distances? or did i just spill some coolant last time i changed the thermostat and mis-diagnose it as a problem?

When was the last time you replaced the thermo?
If it were me, I'd take it on another road trip (with an extra gallon of coolant in the car) and see if it comes back again. It's better to know any problems now than it is to find out the hard way later...

At one time, I had a coolant leak which I thought was an intake gasket. After taking down the engine to the heads and replacing all kinds of crap, I found out the culprit: there is a plastic elbow that feeds into the water pump from the lower intake. It had cracked. So you might consider checking that if you're serious about finding this leak. In order to get to this piece you have to remove the water pump. Oh, and the elbow is available at Autozone under the "help" section. :)

Loochy like i told you before, my car was doing the very same thing yours is. The only diffrence between the two is mine sits all week and is only drive on the weekends. For some reason, it would puddle up during the week, then i would drive it, and it would dissapper for the weekend. I never noticed any coolant loose. Again, its very easy to do it your self. Took me about 7 hours, and i was moving slow. i think i showed you the pics already.

i only drive the car about once every week as well. i check the spot constantly, but i havnt seen it since that one day. i dried it all up with a towel that day and ive been watching it with no signs. i did notice some water on the other side sanme spot today after washing the car, but it was definitely just water and not coolant. im not going to tear into it until i see it at least one more time.

between this "leak", my exhaust leak, and my squeak when i turn left, my car is making me angry at the moment. at least i have no engine lights anymore and the temp never passes 190ish.

well i seem to have the same problem, excepty mine leaks all the time pretty bad, it didnt used to and i couldnt figure out what went wrong, then i read somewhere that on long trips the EGR gets extremely hot and can damage the gasket on the intake, if you dont fix it it will continue to get worse, well it has in my case anyways, but im getting it fixed next week.

Btw loochy if you wait too long it can really make your engine compartment filthy, and I'd hate to see that nice work you've done get ruined.
