Correct me if I'm wrong...
I just got an astounding 420 highway miles to the tank. This is my latest calculation I received after I threw in a can of Seafoam in the fuel tank just when I was barely running on fumes and proceeded to locate a Mobil gas station.
My calculation: 420 miles divided by 15.5/gallons in my fuel tank = 27.096 MPG. I could have went beyond the 420 miles but wasn't going to gamble on running out of fuel and looking like an idiot but the fuel needle was definitely past the E mark.
Anyhow, my local Mobil fuel station was selling regular 87 unleaded at $3.259 a gallon.
I forked out $50.00 to fill my tank up to 15.3 gallons topped off so I concluded my gauge was correct in the 15.5 gallon tank capacity.
Before expending all the 15.3 gallons of fuel, I recently threw in 6 new NGK-TR55 iridium spark plugs along with new wires with a new Fram Air filter and 5 quarts of Castrol 20W-50 plus oil filter and inflated the 4 radial tires to 37 PSI, fuel filter, fresh manual transmission & rear end differential fluids were changed and reset my trip odometer to zero. My commute has increased due to a better paying job and not hammering the GO pedal at all.
Just gentle acceleration on my perfectly stock, no exhaust or intake mods yet M5 Camaro is all it took to acheive this latest finding.
This 27 MPG result is still baffling me but the math doesn't lie. My V6 and I are happy for now 'til someone here can prove me wrong.
Anyone have a similar finding to share?
