alright...starting monday, i popped my hood and saw that i had a pretty big braqke fluid leak coming from the master cylinder area. the problem was that the leak ws so large that brake fluid got all over everything in that general area(this is after i had been driving it). i figured i wouldnt be able to tell anything about the problem until i cleaned off the master cylinder and the surrounding areas. i cleaned it off and i checked it frequently to see if i got spot a leak before it got bad again. i notice that it is leaking from the center of the booster down, and that the hose running from the back of the engine into the left front of the booster is leaking too. heres the weird part though. i notice no difference in the brake pedal.....and there is no loss of fluid from the reservoir tank!! im positive it is brake fluid too, had a mechanic check it out. He said that it is probably the mastercylinder on it way out, but the fact that no fluid has been lost from the reservoir makes no sense. any ideas?

^What he said. An internal seal has gone bad and you need to replace it asap!

daaaaaamit. yeah, i was begining to think the same thing. it is making quite a mess under the hood right now. anybody have an estimate on how much the parts are for a new master cylinder? i wouldnt assume the labor would be too hard on it, worst part is probably bleeding the brakes.....oh well. it is always something.

You can find them on ebay for about $20-$30.

If new/rebuilt, Autozone has one for a 1996 f-body listed as:
          $58.99 with a $22.00 core charge, part number M3005

You WILL have to bench bleed the replacement master cylinder. It's not that hard to do.
As for bleeding the rest of the system (calipers), I bought a set of Speed Bleeders for all of my cars. It makes bleeding the calipers a one-person job and is very easy to do. They are about $26 shipped for all four wheels.
Parts America (Advance Auto) has them in stock, but they are a bit more expensive.
