  • Tune-up costs...

Its time to give my bird a tune-up before she goes back on the road this spring. I'm getting a new clutch installed, so I'll probably put everything else in during that. Here is what I need, can you guys help me find some good products that won't cost too much... Its just simple stuff but any help will do.

    -Valve cover gaskets
    -Plugs and wires
-Oil change (can handle this on my own...)
    -Fuel filter
    -Maybe a new air filter

Anything else I should consider? My car has 186,000 miles on it, bought it with 175,000 and not sure what was done before hand.

all of those, except for maybe the fuel filter, should be a DIY project

Yeah me and my dad will be doing all of it. I'm just wondering where I should get the stuff, what brands are best, etc... And my cousin-in-law will be installing the clutch, so the car should be in my garage during spring break. Unless he is going to the dealership he works at to use their lifts. So while its in my garage we will put everything else in...

a search using each item as a search criteria would probably answer most of your questions, but all of that stuff can be found at any autozone/advanced autoparts

I recommend getting a k&n airfilter.. Its well worth the money considering you can clean it when ever it gets dirty instead of buying a new filter.

Fuel filter is a pretty simple swap.

If you have tubular manifolds, then plugs and wires isnt too bad. I would just get ac delco stockers for your spark plugs.

Most of the stuff can be bought at your local car parts store.

You might consider seafoming the car before you tune... just a thought.

very good point! After swapping out my plugs/wires due to a misfire problem I had, I really wish I would have seafoamed my car before I changed them. Especially since it turned out to just be a bad coil pack.

I might consider seafoaming, but my dad probably won't like the idea. He's like that...

And I paid $2500 for the car. No cosmetic problems, ran/runs mint. Had everything I was looking for... T-tops, 5spd, V6, low price. Previously owned by a women that we know, only owner. She didn't run it hard... often. I've had the car for 2 years and only bought new tires and did the brakes. Plus, I have a spare 3.8L for if/when this one goes.

And the fuzzy dice will be bought, no worries on that.
