• Bosch Platinums vs Rapidfires vs NGK Coppers

Ready to do my tune-up but I am in a dilemma about the sparkplugs. Here's my options...

Rapidfires: my uncle who is a mechanic said to get these, but they are 10cnd each

Bosch Platinums: went to Canadian tire and they were 10 bucks for 2.

NGK Copper: the modifications encyclopedia on this site, said that these spark plugs were the best to run.

Opinions please!

get the Bosch Copper Electrodes...$1 per plug and they're GREAT. Don't waste money on these other plugs unless you're spraying.

I disagree with the above. I would suggest the Rapidfires or the Bosch Platinum plugs. Your car will run better on them and be more gas efficient. I have had all of the above mentioned in my engine and the Rapidfires seemed to perform the best. I am switching to iridium soon so we'll see how they compare.

I have noticed no difference with plugs(I run N/A) on stock computer and motor.

I woudl go with Rapidfires, they gave me the least trouble and last the longest of any plug I ahve used.

I would go with ACDelco Platinum plugs. They were engineered for our cars engines.

I don't know if this was implied or not, but the Rapidfires are also ACDelco plugs. Just FYI if you didn't know.

Ok that's fine, but know this.

My friend and I run identical times. We changed spark plugs...I put in the Bosch copper electrode ($1/plug) and he put those platinum's in (like 5-6/plug) and I run slightly quicker than him now.

Look if you want to spend extra money on spark plugs, be my guess. I'm telling you that for the money, there's not much difference. The Bosch Cu+ are WAY BETTER than the OEM plug but at a nice price.

Just go with the AC Delco spark plugs. The platinum plugs arent worth a s***. Trust me.

The bosch platnums +4 actually ran too hot in my engine. They performed well but just weren't up to par. I went back to the rapid fires.

IMHO the plantinums are the way to go. I bought my 'maro used, the moron who owned the car before me decided to run copper plugs, well, here's the problem, if you don't have TIME or just plain FORGET to change them, you will have a SH***TY running car. I pulled the coppers, put in the bosch plats, and WOW what a difference. I am religious with oil changes, however I don't wanna change those damn plugs again unless I'm putting in new headers they are a ***** to change. With the plats, you have a little leeway as to not having to change them every 6 months or sooner if you drive the amount that I do I can deal with changing them once a year.... another word of advice, when you DO change the plugs, change the wires, BUT goto jcwhitney's website and order the fiberglass insulating sleeves for the new wires. They are THE SAME sleeves that Taylor makes, only Taylor doesn't put their name on it. Install them on the wires before you put the wires in the car. You'll be glad you did. CHEAP insurance seeing as how a 50ft spool of the stuff costs 18bux!! Should a wire come in contact with the header, no biggie, otherwise, you'll be changing wires asap if that happens :( Sleeves come in tan, red, and blue. Good stuff......

I run rapidfires and have had no problems at all. Really though, spark plugs are not going to make that much difference for you, I'd say just do what the mechanic said and put in the plugs that were made for your car, rapidfires.

At 56k miles I had my plug wires changed by the dealer under their recall. While they were there I had them put new ACDelco Platinum plugs, the OEM ones. They called me on the phone and told me not to bother, the original ones were in near perfect condition. I had them change them anyway, and I kept the old plugs, they are near perfect. The OEM plugs work just fine, last a very long time and if you are not spraying, there is no reason to use others, unless you just want to pay more and say I run a more expensive plug.

Just my opinion, take it for what it is worth.

the convential wisdom is to run platinum (or iridium) plugs if you are not running any power adders (like nitrous or supercharger).

platinum (and iridium) last longer than copper and will need to be replaced less often.

the downside to platinum is a cooler spark (so nitrous and superchargers tend to quench platinum plugs). iridium plugs are supposed to spark 'hotter' than platinum but still aren't as good as copper.

ngk makes a fine set of iridium plugs.

do a search on iridium in the forum. there is graph of misfires versus plug type.

i will never use bosh platinum in my car again. rapidfires are ok if you like wasting money in my opinion. unless you have mods that call for different, all you need are the regular ac delco plugs. that is all i use in my broke azz car.

hey, maybe if i went back to platinum my car will run again? i doubt it. those fouled left and right in my car. they are too hot for or engines.
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

Run some form of platinum plug if you're gonna run NA, run a colder range copper plug if you're gonna run forced induction or nitrous.

Will you be able to tell a difference in NA performance? Doubt it, but you may not have to change the platinum plug as often. I had the rapidfires. Felt like stock.

If some type of forced induction or nitrous is in the back of your mind, even as a passing thought, get some coppers.
