  • Oil Pressure sensor?

My oil pressure sensor on the engine broke or was broken I should say, by a stupid mechanic that dropped my alternator as he was trying to swap it and it hit the sensor and broke  . ...so now my gauge shows nothing. No oil seemed to have spilled or be spilling for that matter. But no damn parts store seems to have it in stock so it will take a few days by the time it gets in. Can I still drive the car as if the sensor were ok or will it mess something up? Doesnt look like it would but just want to make sure.

I was going to do it myself but I couldnt because I'm working the whole day and I needed my car urgently. That and I couldnt find a tool I needed.

You might set a few codes off doing it but I guess if that doesnt bother you go ahead. Personally I wouldnt.

I had to do mine on the 3.4. It wasn't too difficult. The actual sensor is wrapped in rubber and a heatsheild. Had to cut thru the rubber to get the old one out, then used high temp forma-gasket (red) to seal it back up. I used a big adjustable wrench.

Why isn't your mechanic fixing his own mistake?

        DO NOT DRIVE YOUR CAR!!!!!!!
the way the sensor works is that is pushes the oil against the sensor to measure the pressure if there is nothing there to stop it, it will rip through that seal and make a huge mess and you will lose tons of oil DONT DRIVE till you fix it.
Its easy to go napa ask for the oil sending unit....screw the old one out and put the new one in its easy
