it doesnt do this every time, but maybe once every 10 starts..
when i hit the key and it starts up, it will idle really rough, and the RPM's will stay at 1500 for this time, and they will go down.. happens for about 5 seconds.
Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!
Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.
I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)
They only way that you can get a sense of what is going on when the event occurs is to have a scanner hooked up to it and set to Live Data. When it happens, use the data capture feature and get a freeze frame of the data stream. Then you can anaylize whats going on. You might find a erroniousTPS or MAF (or something else) reading which will give you an idea where to start looking.

Mine does the same exact thing. If you ever figure it out lemme know. Eh, I first noticed it when I cleaned and re oiled my k&n airfilter but I cleaned the maf and sopped up excess filter oil and it still does it. Also my egr is fine and clean.. my fuel injectors are fine.. the only other thing I can think of that you guys mentioned that I did not check was my coolant temp sensor. Other than that, I have no idea. But yeah, i'll look into that and like I said... if you figure out what's causing it in yours lemme know.
