  • Dead Defogger

    Hello,

My rear window defogger stopped working about a year ago on my 2002 Camaro and with winter coming, I'd like to fix it. The switch and light do not seem to be working at all. The rear window grid and soldered tabs look good.

I went to a chevy dealer and they told me the switch went with the whole HVAC panel....$219 !

Has anyone had a similar issue and can just the switch be purchased without the whole HVAC panel?

    Bob

I actually have the same problem. The fuse did not work. It would nice nice to use the HAVC system one of these days :p

        Hello,

I replaced the relay with a 30amp fuse, still nothing...fuse didn't blow either. It would be really nice (& safer) to have the defroster as it gets cold in the NE this time of year...

Any other thoughts? I hate to go to a dealer for something like this.

                  It's just the switch??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Get a momentary button that's about the same size and wire it up.

EDIT: If you wanna be fancy get one with a light, and wire up all three leads so the light comes on like the original.

Like Tom said just replace the 30 amp breaker with a 30 amp fuse and it wont turn off.

If you wanna see if its the switch, just hard wire the defogger and see if it comes on.

                            Re: Dead Defogger

FYI the defogger is designed to turn itself off after 10 min, and if you turn it on again, it will turn itself off after another 5-10 min. At least thats what the manual says. It draws a fair amount of power so it shouldn't stay on longer than it needs to get the job done. When I turn mine on the lights dim for a sec before the alternator cranks out more power.
