  • Leaking Oil Pressure Sensor

I got my headers on, and I had to take off the oil pressure sensor (I think). Its the one that you have to move to get the drivers side header on, its connected to where the oil filter sits. Anyway, when I started up my car, it starts leaking oil really bad from it. Its too hot too put my hand down there now, so while its cooling off I thought I'd ask if anyone knows if its broken or if I just need to push it down more?

Depends where it is leaking from. When you buy a new one, they come with the threads coated in red thread sealant. So if you took it off, you should re-coat the threads with red thread-loc and re-tighten in on there. If it continues to leak after that, go spend the $25 bucks and buy a new one.

If it's leaking from anywhere else, then the sensor is broken and you're going to have to buy a new one anyways.

Well you know the big rubber part that kinda pops off of the sensor? Its leaking from there. Its not from where the sensor actually threads in, but where that rubber part pushes on.

        This is on a 3.4L I assume?

I don't think you have to move it on the 3.8L since its on the front.

On my 3.4L when it cracked it cracked inside the boot. I had to wait a week to get a new one(not in stock locally anywhere). I was losing ~1 quart of oil every 70 miles.

I'd replace it, if its a 3.4L it old, and its a part you want working, just do it for piece of mind on top of the it being the probably cause of your issues.

Yes it is a 3.4, sorry I didn't mention it. So if I bought the oil pressure sensor switch at Napa, would it come with rubber boot? They're closed right now so I can't call them, but I was assuming it was the threaded metal part that the rubber boot goes on to. There were little broken pieces of plastic in the rubber boot part. At Napa I noticed that there was a 2 prong and a 3 prong version. Is this the right part?

            I am a little fuzzy, I haven't had my 3.4L since 2003

I think the rubber boot wasn't the important part, I had a crack in the side of the sensor. You can ask but I think it might be a dealer part.

              Re: Leaking Oil Pressure Sensor

Another question - is the rubber boot supposed to be able to come off? Also I'm curious about the little pieces of plastic inside. When you push the rubber boot on, is it supposed to click down? Mine doesn't, it just sits on it. When I start my car, the pressure blows the rubber boot off and it starts pouring oil. Any more info?
