can't remove key from ignition, think it has somethign to do with park

Like the title says, i can't get my key out of the ignition. I can cycle trhough every gear without even engagign the button (a4). The transmission is shifting fine, but I sitll have a feeling something is wrong with it for this simple reason. Anyoen ahve any ideas? I don't even have to have the brake pressed in to shift between all the gears. I let my little brother drive it yesterday and now this occurs.

sounds like the lock cylinder is sticking.

so i guess i have to take the console off and lube it :( shoudl I use wd-40?

Shift lock release or something like that.

There is a switch/sensor that tells your car when it is in park. If that switch/sensor isn't tripped it won't let the key out of the ignition. My grand prix does the same thing. I just lock the door with the key in the ignition and use the remote to get it :D

wish i could, me and the wife have been on different schedules for work so i havent seen her much the last few weeks, so we're gonna go do something sunday to make up for the lack of time we've had the last couple weeks since we're both off.

when im waking up for work, she's just falling asleep. sucks.

ill find out her schedule and let ya know when im free though! its been a while, maybe i can get some buddies off thier asses and we can have a mini fbody meet :D

btw, im on aim everynow and then, damn thing works when it wants to so i get pissed and dont use it for a while until i cool down and dont want to kill aim.

yea lol I know what you mean. I've ben trying tog et back on it for the past 15 minutes. For some reason it jsut doesn't want to work

I had the exact same thing happen to me. It got stuck and wouldn't come out. What I ended up doing was turn the key forward without starting it up, but enough to turn on the electronics, move it through all the gears, then put it in neutral, let it roll back a bit, put it in park, then take the key out. What it's doing is not turning all the way back. All I had to do was fiddle with it for a few minutes to get it out. No big deal. Hasn't done it since.

Also try taking it out in neutral. :P then work from there. You said you think it has something to do with park. There are 2 bolts holding the shifter cable to the drivers side of the transmission pan. Make sure they're tight. One of mine wasn't on there when I got the car and it kept coming loose. When I was putting it in park, it would actually be in reverse. That was no good. I tightened the bolt down with the shifter where park should be, got in, moved the shifter all the way down to 1st, then back up to park. I eventually got another bolt to go in place where the other one should have been. I never had that problem or the one with the key since!
