  • Whats the name of that piece?

what is the name of the piece that the oil filter screws on to, that also happens to be a separate piece from the block on a 3.4?

this thing is leaking like a sieve, and naturally its leaking right on the drivers side down pipe. i just need to know before i go ordering the wrong gasket. ive looked on a couple of parts supply sites and i would like a second opinion before draining the oil and tearing it apart.

this is the best ive come up with so far: http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...pe=796&PTSet=A dosent look right to me...

suggestions? leak is starting to get bad and i really dont want to use form-a-gasket sealant.

are you sure it's where the filter screws in? I know the oil pressure sensor is fairly common to go out, causing possible massive leaking.. i'm not sure exactly where it is on the 3.4 but i know in the 3.8 it's right above the filter.

Dude, I just had a time with about the same thing. Make sure the oil isn't coming out of the oil pressure sensor, like Schlotzky said. I had oil coming out the top of the sensor and made it look like it was leaking out of that oil filter adapter.

yep, its a separate part from the engine block. this part has bosses for the oil filter and the oil pressure sending unit. last time i was under there it was only leaking a little, i noticed the sending unit seemed loose so i tightened it. not excessively, but i did get a few turns out of it.

it sounds very similar to a 3.8 from what you say Schlotzky, the sending unit is right above the filter. there isnt any piece of an old oil filter gasket still stuck on there. that would have been an immediate leak when i first spun the oil filter on there. that and i wasnt born yesterday...

i may have to try replacing the sending unit. its only $20. maybe itll fix the problem. if not i guess ill have to drain the oil again and find the gasket... im just getting tired of smelling oil burning from a tiny little leak.

            thanks for the suggestions guys!
