  • My engine's peeing on itself :(

    :( hey guys,

Round about the second week of December, my car overheated, and i stopped and cut the car off as soon as the temp guage hit red. I'd never noticed any coolant dropping, or burning, but when i looked in the radiator, it was bone-dry...i figured it was just a slow leak, so i kicked myself in the rear :spank: for not noticing it, topped the car off with antifreeze and a bit of water, and continued about my business. Right here lately, it's been dropping more and more coolant, so i parked it, and the last week or so i've driven it a few times. It's been cold here, like see-your-breathe cold, and it's droppin enough coolant that when i pulled up in my yard today, the hot coolant was steaming in the cold air...it seems like it's comin from the passenger side of the motor, but other than that i cant tell where its comin from...anyone had a similar leak? and if so, what did it turn out to be? I'm tryin to get an idea of what im lookin at here as far as repairs...

Well if you suspect that it maybe the your engine block open up your radiator cap while car is on. If your engine block or gaskets are bad you would see bubbles in your radiator as it is running. Thats how i figured out that my sisters car had blown head gaskets. Luckily her cooling system did the work and shut the car off before extreme damage was caused to the motor. So good luck with your car hope gave you some good advice.

Get a flashlight and an inspection mirror and trace that leakage back to where it's coming from. Could be the plastic elbow that runs from the block to the tensioner assembly.

elbow from block to the tensioner?...r u speakin of a 3.8? cuz this a 3.4. but yea, when i look from the front, just past the left side of the waterpump, behind the bracket holdin the AC comp., theres water running down there...like, i mean, a steady stream...this leads me to believe it's a head gasket...is there anything i might can do to slow this leak atleast, until finances can be worked out to get it to the shop?

oh yea, i just went to look, and the lil skid-plate thingy bolted to the bottom of the steering rack, the passenger side of that seem to pool up and run over...

i hope this isnt too serious...i really cant afford this :bs: right now

mine was loosing coolant and it was cuz the overflow bottle was leaking underneath the battery.

wow...knowing my luck, i bet thats what it would be...but if it was that, would that lil plate under the steering rack get wet? i'd got check right now, but it's reallly cold, and i cant find my coat lol

forgot to mention, it only leaks when the engine's running...i can top it off, let it sit for a day, check it and its still topped off...drive it somewhere, and a noticable amount is gone...
