  • Security light....car wont start!!!!

Ok, sometimes the car will start and sometimes it wont, but the security light will be on...

My brother had a firebird same year but obd1 3.4 manual, and his did the same thing and he replaced the key and it worked.

    Mines a obd2 3.8 auto

what do you all think it is?

yeah, the resistor in the key is prob worn out. Get a new one and see if it fixes the problem. Otherwise do the Pass-Key Bypass mod.

I found out that resister trick was already done on my car, I went to the dealership and had them test the key it tested good.

I then used an ohm tester and found out it was 3 ohms, so I got a 3.3 ohms resister (the closest I could find) I then soldered it in placed cause the old one must have gone bad.

        Problem solved.

Having the same prob with my 01 Bird..Was told that it also could be in the ignition itself thats worn out or a short in electrical box from ignition. Take to auto repair that does electrical and they can check it out cheaper that dealer can.

A very common problem with the pass-key ignitions is in the ignition cylinder itself. There are two tiny wires coming off of the cylinder. Those wires very easily break since they move every time the key is turned. They only true fix (without bypassing the system) is to replace the ignition cylinder, which will require a new key.
