I have asked once, but never remember getting a responce. A few weeks back my auto locks quit working. whenever i push the button (weather is on the drivers or pasengers door panel) all i get is a clicking noise comming from around the drivers side portion on the dash. Any ideas on this?

Re: Power lock trouble.
Is the clicking noise similar to the noise it would make if it were working properly, or is it different? And I'm assuming you can still lock and unlock the door with the key, right?
If the locks still work manually, it's got to be an electrical problem.

Re: Power lock trouble.
May be a bad ground, since the clicking indicates that a signal is being received when you operate the switches, but then the locks themselves don't work. Since neither of them work, to me that would indicate an issue with the ground. If you can find the wires that operate the door locks, I would suggest connecting them to ground and a +12V source to see if thy work. If you cannot locate the wires, then take off the door panels so you can access the locking solenoids directly. I would first try to locate the source of the clicking. Maybe a wire came loose at that point.2002 Silver Firebird A4
T-Tops, Leather, Y87, W68, Chrome Wheels
Bone Stock

Re: Power lock trouble.
Yes the clicking noise is comming from under the drivers side dash. Sounds to me like a relay clicking.... is that possible? Also their was no random failure before this, it was all of the sudden, which doesnt sound like ground problem to me. ive had the switch out since then, and on a visual inspecion found nothing wrong with it. any more ideas before i go ripping off the door panel? thans again guys.

Re: Power lock trouble.
You never know, a wire could come loose at any time. I had a bad ground in my headlights that just appeared one day, so it can happen. Things get jarred loose. I'd check where the clicking is coming from first, since you know that this relay, or whatever it is, is working. Then work your way toward the locks. Since neither door works, the problem is probably not in the doors themselves.
I'm looking at my Haynes manual, and it states that if if the relay works, which yours does, then you need to check for a bad ground at the relay case. I think the relay case is the one that is under the hood on the driver's side.
So, I went out and looked under the hood of my Bird (2002) and I do not see any power lock relay under the hood. So, I don't know what the Haynes manual is talking about when it comes to that. Hopefully your issue is just between that under-dash relay and the door locks. Maybe the "relay case" is whatever that clicking relay is mounted in.Last edited by Rob Bell; 03-25-2008, 02:39 PM.2002 Silver Firebird A4
T-Tops, Leather, Y87, W68, Chrome Wheels
Bone Stock
