  • Will this shift improver work??

I bought the B&M shift improver kit during the winter and am thinking about installing it now. It says it is for 93-95 3.4 camaro/firebird, but it says it is for the 4l60e tranny. Now here is the dillema...

my car is a 93 3.4 and technically the tranny in the 93 is the 4l60 and not the 4l60e !!!

the instructions clearly state 93-95 3.4 but like i said i don't have quite the same tranny. If i am not mistaken the difference in tranny's is huge in that it is vacuum line controlled and NOT electronically controlled by the pcm.

to make things more interesting, i bought this from summit racing. They give you the option to choose from 4l60 or 4l60e when searching for a shift kit, the funny thing is if you click on either of them it still comes up with the same part # for the B&M shift improver kit, leading me to believe that it is possible that it would work on either the 4l60 or 4l60e application.

Could anybody clear the air here? will this thing work on my car?

looking for an expert opinion here.

    thanks

    max

thanks bibber, i trust your evaluation, btw i can always keep it on setting "1" if it shifts too hard.

btw, can u tell me the difference between the 4l60 and 4l60e ?

      thanks

you are correct about the 4l60 being vac-controlled and the 4l60e being electronic...i'm sure the internal gearing and such is identical between the 2, only the means of operating it changed...not really sure why they changed it up tho, i guess they figured everything else was electronic by then, why not the tranny?

Is there a shift kit available for the auto paired with a 3.8?

ok gotcha gotcha, so then technically the improver kit does the same thing for both, the difference between the two tranny's is a different aspect of things.

update: i installed it and don't really notice a differnece at all... hmmm.. did i install it wrong how can i tell if it is working? i tapped into the correct color wires, though the #'s in the diagram for the wire locations was off.

hahaha i prlly did. idk, i thought it was shifting harder but then i switched it back and forth a couple times between stock and stage 2 and didn't notice much of a difference, as opposed to what some people called "gear wrenching" shifts... so

ive herd the car has to sometimes be turned off then back on for the changes to take effect.

Here is my confusion. If our 3.4 cars have the 4L60, then how would this device wire in??? We don't have the 4L60E. I am sure that you wired it properly, but what does it do?

kinda what I was wondering too.
meanwhile, have you tried unplugging your battery for a bit? thats my default fix for these sorts of things

eh, batt was unplugged during install, i don't wanna do it again. the color wires were correct that i spliced into on the "blue" pcm pigtail, but the #'s that the wires were supposed to be were different.
