          Re: intake manifold tips

There is more then 4 bolts, there is one in the rear. Looking at my spare lower intake for my 96' there looks like there might be 11 bolts. Just by looking at it. Also you will need GM gasket sealer for the front and rear valley, thats where most leaks happen.

            Re: intake manifold tips

            i know theres more than 4 ?

right now i have 13 bolts for the lower intake. should be all of them then.

i dont have the right side valve cover off right now but it doesnt look like its holding the lower intake on. do i have to remove that first?
(only reason i didnt is because i cant get to that bolt thats holding on the bracket from before.)

You might try to get that bolt from underneath if possible. I don't know........

                Re: intake manifold tips

I don't remember off the top of my head how many bolts are in the lower intake manifold, but I know there are two "hidden" bolts in it. There are bolts around the outside of it and also two bolts that are on the "inside" so to speak. By "inside" I mean that you can only access these bolts by removing the upper intake (which of course you have removed). The two "hidden" bolts are not on the outer perimeter of the intake. Most of the time they are covered up by a puddle of oil. Or maybe there's 4 of them... hell I don't remember; it's been a while :) In any case, there's an even number of bolts, so if you have 13 out, there's at least one more.

hmm alright thanks. ill have to go searching for that sneaky bolt in the morning.

anyknow have a service manual or something? I need to know the torque sequence/specs for both intake manifolds.

                    Re: intake manifold tips

alright got it off, replaces the gasket and everything and now im putting the bolts for the lower intake back in. only problem is, the bolt hole in the rear doesnt seem to line up with anything. or i cant find the right hole or something. its like that whole thing just vanished. i checked and triple checked and its definatly lined up right and i have every other bolt in it except that rear one. those of you that have a spare lower intake sitting around, you wanna look and tell me if it was closer to the right or left side or center or anything that will help?????

                      Re: intake manifold tips

ok forget that last question. but right now i have all the bolts in the lower intake but 1. 5 on each side and 3 "hidden" ones. and i have one bolt left over that i cannot find where it goes. anyone thats got a spare one to look at wanna tell me where the 14th bolt goes? its one of the smaller bolts not the 2 bigger ones.

                      thanks.

                        Re: intake manifold tips

If you found 3 hidden ones then there is a 4th. Should be one in each corner on the inside.

Just to think, I'll probably be doing this pretty soon too, but I'm doing the head gaskets with upgraded heads and new Comp lifters. I see what I will be facing. Although I will have Meatyshells helping. He has done his quite a bit, so it will probably be him doing most of the work.LOL

i dont know if youve ever done this kinda stuff before, but ive never done any engine work. thats why i had so many questions because i was completely in the dark. if you know what youre doing or have someone there who does, im sure it wont be very difficult at all.

i did find that sneaky bolt and have almost everything back together. just gotta connect stuff and get everything hooked back up. but one last question. when i was connecting the hose thing that goes into the drivers side header (i think its the egr) i cracked the metal tubing. yeah, blows. if i hook it all back together and run it like that, what will happen? a ticking exhaust leak? or worse? is there any way to fix it other than replacing the tube?

You could use some copper RTV, I've used it on my EGR.
