In a couple months I am going to be going from my 2 piece DS to an aluminum one. I see a lot of people selling safety loops, but do I really need one? I have the 3.4 with a few mods and I don't race it much, so surely it can't make enough torque to slip out or anything? Has this happened, or is this simply a safety precaution?
Thanks.

Safety lopes are usually used in the racing world as a safety feature. Being that the driveshaft is under a load when you race it could snap. In the case that it does the safety loop is there so it won’t puncture a hole in your floor board and cause injury. But you don’t need one unless you’re planning to race.
Its not really a must, but its there incase the driveshaft snaps. Have you ever seen the Mythbusters episode where they tested the "Driveshaft pole vault" myth, well it wasn't a myth.
