Need Help- Humming Noise From Engine

Your belt might be the culprit. I'd pick one up. While you have your old belt off, check for binding or lateral movement in the alternator, AC, tensioner pulley, etc.\'94 Camaro 3.4
\"No, Starvin Marvin. That\'s my pot pie.\"

could be a number of things.. I'd try to isolate the sound and go from there.. then again as someone suggested a belt isn't necessarily a bad place to start..-Brad
98 Firebird - gone from mod mode to keep it running and useable mode.

Man I've had the same hum since I bought my car a year ago. I had it checked out and it was the power steering pump. I've seen a lot of other birds and they make the same noise. It's kind of annoying, but it's not hurting anything.. I guess it's just a defect from the company.2000 Camaro Z/28

Are you talking about a steady hum at all times or the buzz niose that ALL GM power steering pumps make when they turn under a load? If it's a steady, constant hum, you can probably do something about it.\'94 Camaro 3.4
\"No, Starvin Marvin. That\'s my pot pie.\"

it's a constant hum, as soon as i turn it over it starts, when the belt is turning it's making the noise. it doesn't get louder it's always the same level and doesn't change even when i turn.1996 Chevy Camaro SS
#67 of 2,410 made that year with the slp package
Street Lethal Fbody Association Member
http://www.cars-on-line.com/97cam11475.html

it is common if not normal. If it changes with the pitch of your rpms then it would be a bearing as it spins faster with higher rpms. If it is not the common alternator whine then check your belt for cracks. That may solve your problem or you have to live with it like the rest of us.
