  • Strange intermittent engine noise

For a while now there is a noise that sounds like a gurgling/scraping/gushing air type sound coming from the engine. The strange part is that is comes and goes and I can really only hear it while the car is idling in any gear. Another weird thing is that I can hear it very clearly in the passenger compartment, but when I open the hood, I can't seem to hear it that well anymore. This is preventing me from locating the source. I might buy a mechanic's stethoscope and try to listen when it's doing it, but there are hundreds of things to check. Does anyone have any clue what this might me so I can narrow it down?

probably coolant running through the heater core.

Mine makes a gurgling too? worse when its cold.

Kinda sounds like airated water rushing through the pipes?

It sounds like that. It makes the noise when the heater is off so I don't think it's related to the heat though.
