  • Engine ID on block....

I know this is probly common knowlage, but I can't seem to find the engine stamp that tells you what it is.

This is for a 1967 Camaro however, it seems it originally had a straight 6, now with a beefy V8. So I need to find the engine code on the block to find out just what we are looking at.

      Re: Engine ID on block....

On small-block V8s, the date code is located on the bellhousing/transmission mounting flange at the rear of the block on the passenger's side. Big-block V8 date codes are usually found on the bellhousing/transmission flange at the rear of the block, but may also be located on the driver's side of the block near the freeze plug. Still others (348/409 W-engines) may be found above the oil filter.
