You'll need a whole new bin file, not just the VIN.

I can't answer for sure, but I don't see why you would. The VIN doesn't contain any info on the transmission: http://www.fbodydomain.com/VIN/VIN.asp#1993.

But on the same token, how does setting the VIN to a Y87 car give you the correct gear ratio?? Unless it's not the VIN that actually does that, but when you ask the dealer to flash it they reprogram with the whole code from that car?

good point

maybe vin = certain flash files? the type in vin and it give them the .bin to flash ?

^ I just had my spare PCM bench-flashed. All they asked for was the VIN and they were able to figure out the correct bin to flash from that. I didn't give them any other details about the car. I did get some strange looks though when I came to pick up the newly Camaro-flashed PCM in my Firebird, haha.

I had a private garage bench flash my PCM. My dealer refused to put a different VIN in the computer than what was on the car.

When getting my CAT replaced under warranty Dealer asked if I had modified or raced the car, I gave him a blank stare and said "People race v6s?"

Honestly I don't think you need the VIN, I "browsed" some of the writeups of v8 guys converting A4-6-speed and back.

Eitehr way doesn't it not apply to you, don't you have a non-electronic transmission? I assume only mods you would have to do is jump the neutral clutch safety switch, and something witht he VSS.

97's dont contain the vin within the .bin file so it looks like your safe...similar to the 98 ls1 cars.

well just got back from the shop and the car is still tranny less

I have the worst luck installing mods or any major work on the car...... everytime somthing happens, the only thing that did go smoothish was the turbo install.....

anyway the farking spec pilot bearing would not ****ing come out so i had to grind through it

one problem: the tranny i have is from a 1999...... well they must have changed the bell housing some... mine has 2 arms that come out and bolt to the M5 bellhousing, well on the auto its just 2 bolt hole's on the bottom and it won't install with those arms there.... so do i need these? lol it fits on the top of the motor just there's nothing to bolt it too on the bottom....

still left
install flex plate
install TC in tranny.....
install tranny if the bellhousing is not an issue
wire it up

this better be worth it

**** I see what you are saying about the bushing... I can see it being weak, on a puller.

ohh well, I am planning to leave that bushing in for life LIFE
