hey i was driving the other day and my car threw a p0420 code saying "catalyst efficiency low - bank 1" or something to that extent? could this have happened if maybe the 02 sensor tripped in my catalytic converter or perhaps a small backfire occured while i was trying to break in my exhaust? or is it something else? thanks-

Re: P0420 code
did you modify your exhaust any? Ive heard that the code can trip and there be nothing wrong. The free and quick way to check to see if anything is wrong, is to get autozone or someone to read the codes, and clear them. Then if the light comes back on, it might be the sensor of the cat itself. how old is your car (yr and mileage).Check out my car on cardomain.com!!! <br /><a href=\"http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=844739\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=844739</a>

Re: P0420 code
Is your cat stock? Usually when that cat is thrown it is because your cat is failing or shot. Hear any rattles?
Also if you have an aftermarket high flow cat then an 02 sim will take care of the light or a tune.
But yea get back to us about what cat you are running and if any work has been done.

Re: P0420 code
Hey sorry about getting back so late.
My car has 109,xxx original miles, however
I have a new motor with 800 miles on it
A new tranny with 1000 miles on it
And a new magnaflow catback exhaust with a high flow cat on it.
98 Camaro Y87
Im guessing it was cause of the high flow cat that it tripped the code. I cleared it at autozone and it hasnt come back yet
