  • Quick question!

I have a 1996 Camaro with Delco-Bose system, equipped with Delco-Loc II. I'm thinking about upgrading to an aftermarket head unit. I'm not quite sure what to do about taking the factory head unit out without causing any harm to the security system.

Can I just pull the damn thing out without disconnecting the battery?

Or should I just disconnect it and then take out the head unit?

Again, I'm not sure and I don't feel like messing anything up with the security system.

I'm getting an OEA-4 convertor so I keep my Bose speakers. Should I just pick up a harness for the head unit from walmart by just looking up my car?

    Do I need anything else?

    Thanks!

    No responses?

I was thinking it would make sense to either remove the fuse to the radio or just disconnect the battery, either way power needs to be removed in order to get that stock radio out.

    I hope everything goes well.

You should always disconnect the battery when working on anything electrical in the car :)

        Re: Quick question!

Been awhile since I've had to mess with it, but surely the Delco-Loc is the same as Theft-Loc? Meaning, if the headunit loses power it will go into lock mode and will require a numeric password to be entered before it will unlock and allow use.

1)If you know the passcode, then who cares. Rip that tish out.
2)If you don't know the passcode and never care to use the headunit again, then who cares. Rip that tish out.
3)If you don't know the passcode and would like to use the headunit again, there is a way to disable the Theft-Loc altogether. Not knowing the code, but actually turning it off altogether. It might be in our stickies/FAQs/Mod Encyc.... I can't remember.
4)Get someone to figure out the passcode for you.(Paying a dealer, or MAY be able to find a walkthrough online)

So it would ok to rip it out without throwing the SECURITY light on the car?
