  • Headunit borked?

So my amp showed up today and I decided to throw everything in to tune my amp before the final install.

Turning the gain on my amp up causes every component in my car to distort. I'm using monster cable RCA's, ran down the drivers side and 4ga power running down the passenger, 20ish remote down the passenger. Headunit is a Pioneer DEH4900. Using the sub outs, or even trying the rear outs I get the same problem. Headunit was in my previous car with 2x MA 120qs' and an MA HK1998 @ 2ohm and I did not have this problem. With the gain turned down/amp off the problem goes away. Any ideas?

Don't turn the gain on the amp up too high? Gain is not a volume control. It should be matched to the source, and the source should control the volume.

I know what gain is and that its not a volume control, read the post again.

Why would gain cause my components that are NOT ON AN AMP to distort? Anyway, I've narrowed it down to the amps powersupply and am having it replaced.

Now, where does it say that every component in your car isn't powered by said amp?

Make certain your grounds have a good connection before replacing anything, bad grounds can cause all sorts of problems.

I say as I'm the one that hooked it up. Its a monoblock class d for use on my 2 12's. The rest of my components are running off of the headunit. Grounds are fine, grounded the hu to the chassis and even made sure the amp ground was fine. Tried a junk pyramid amp and the problem goes away.

ok, but you didn't specify that these components werent hooked up to the amp, in your original post. All you said is "every component in my car distorts when I turn the gain up." That leads us to believe that you have all your components hooked up to said amp.

I love when people ask for help and just ***** when you try to help them :slap:

Hope you get the problem sorted out.

I understood his original post just fine.
1st of all,. if he was running just a 4 channel, he PROBABLY wouldnt be using a 4ga. power wire.
2nd... why would he use his Sub Out for his components? He wouldnt.

Sometimes you gotta read the whole post and put it all together before you jump to conclusions.

Good luck with the new amp.

I think its a problem with the monsoon amp, where is the monsoon amp itself located?

I don't see any factory amp in the hatch anywhere. I do however have what appears to be the monsoon CD changer harness in the dash.

It would be in the spare tire well. If you take the spare tire out, you should be able to see it inside of there.
