I recently swapped tires and rims as many of you already know and have been putting plenty of miles on the car this past week. Anyways, I went from 235/55/16 to 275/40/17 and have lost the ability to put the car sideways much less do a major burnout :tdown: I guess it is for the best as it will keep me out of trouble. My camaro (an automatic) handles/looks much better with the wider tires but...Time to start pricing out a turbo build?
Lol, yea wide tires will do that. I'm running the same size. What kind of diff/gears do you have? I can do a reasonable burnout with lsd and 3.42 from a stop or very slow roll. But once the tires are hot, yea it becomes a lot more of a chirp than a burnout. Burnouts don't make you fast any way :). As far as drifting goes, you can still do it, you just have to hit the corners and the gas pedal harder ;).
I have the Y87 option on my car but am unsure as to the gear ratios. It's not a huge disappointment to not be able to pitch the car but it did feel good doing it.
You ever been at a gas station and see people checking out your car only to give each other that "smile" once you fire it up and reveal that it is a 3.8 and not a LS1? When that happened to me with my old setup, I gladly gave them a show by mashing the gas, it was like the car was on wet pavement (sigh), but not anymore :o
I have LSD 3.42s. Chrome wheels that are a half inch wider than stock. Even when i had the open diff i could smoke both tires, which was kind of unusual. I think there was something wrong with it hahaha. But even with the new wheels i can smoke them pretty nicely. Just not as good as stock. All of that rotational mass doesnt help either.

When I had stock exhaust maybe. Now with the 3" pipe and no cat... it sounds pretty deep. It's deeper so I've been setting off car alarms everywhere i go. The exhaust was louder when i had smaller pipe with no cat and a flowmaster, but it was a lot more high pitched. Now it's a lot of bass but not as loud. U can feel the bass in ur lungs if you're behind the car.
Can't wait to get the new headers in, hopefully this week. :). I hope it gets even deeper! Then the cam is coming very soon to further monster up the sound and performance.
I just got the 315/35/17's on the rear from 275/40/17's and I'm still chirping 2md and 3rd which I thought it would not esp. with my suspension. But I can get alittle spin if I rev it to 2200-2400(A4) and mash the gas , not alot of spin though. Be glad your car doesn't spin you will be faster, I know with 255/50/16's I use to slide all over fish tailing but it all stopped with a UMI adj. TQ arm. Very good investment for straight line performance. Will make your car grip.

Alot depends on what tires and what not. My Sumitomo tires do not hook worth a crap and always spin no matter what. I am probably going to go with Nitto's next tire. I heard BFG's were good also. I have 22k on these Sumitomo HTRZ II's and they might have another 10-15k. Honestly they have been the worst riding tire I have ever owned. I am runnig 275/40/17

go nitto's you'll love 'em. i'm running 275/40/17zr nt555's and they're amazing --- i hit the twisties and drift them with no problem, and monster grip in corners.

you think that deepened it up, wait until you go headers, full 3" exhaust, and an open cutout --- it's ungodly. i too play the parking garage alarm game and get my shizz and giggles ;)
