Re: brake decisions
I'd spend some money on good blanks. Slotted rotors just chew pads up on a street driven car. Pads are a personal preference. I prefer Delco. I've had Hawk's, and they dust like crazy. Wilwoods dusted and squeeled until they were up to temp. Cheapo Autozone pads die in a couple months. If you really want enhanced braking performance, upgrade to C5 brakes and braided steel lines or CTS-V Brembos.www.fullthrottlev6.com
www.chitownracing.com

Re: brake decisions
depends on what your using them for. Blanks are lame looking. i have Summitracing drilled and slotted and they work great. Never had any problems with them and i autocross on r-compounds all summer. i use Satisfied ceramic pads. They are great on the street but at large tracks on hot days they start to show there weaknesses with the r-comps on the car. Don't get caught up in the big name brands.

Re: brake decisions
I have had R1 concepts for so long I have to give them a great on performance , there D/S zinc coated. For pads I would go with Hawks or Satisfied ceramic has always worked well.Last edited by ssms5411; 03-01-2011, 03:04 PM.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: brake decisions
I will never run drilled rotors on a car again. Slotted maybe, but not drilled. This and this are what happens when you push cheapie drilled rotors too hard (those were the Summit d/s rotors - actually made by R1 Concepts for Summit). That happened at a track day at Summit Point BTW. YMMV. FWIW, drilled/slotted rotors will make no stopping difference in daily driving conditions, pads are what make the difference there.
To that end, I haven't found a set of pads I'm in love with yet; I have a set of Hawk HP+ (front, I have HPS on the rear) I use for autocross & track days, but they dust & squeal way too much for d/d use. I have a set of Peppy Boys ceramic "premium" pads on the front of the car for d/d use now, they are ok but nowhere near the stopping power of the Hawks. I'm thinking of trying a set of HPS pads on the front next, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Don't let anyone tell you that the cheap Advance/Autozone/Pep Boys pads work just as well as the good ones - they may be fine for 99% of the driving you'll ever do, but if you ever intend to push the car's limits you'll want a better pad. Hawk and Carbotech are two of the most common pads used in amateur road racing; they both make street performance pads (although they are both on the high end of the price range). I've also heard good things about Axxis Ultimates (maybe closer to HP+ w/r/t noise and dusting), Satisfied Grand Sports ($45 on closeout from Tirerack), and Stop Tech street performance pads ($59 from Rock Auto).

Re: brake decisions
I have HPS and I love them. No squeal, not too much dust, and they work better when they are heated up. Normally when I had a full car, my lt1 brakes would have to work too hard, with these ls1 brakes and hps its night and day difference, I never stress the brakes out during daily driving. I will be buying them again
