Weld on sub frame connectors.

I installed my sub frame connectors last week and here is a write up on how to do it to a 93-97 camaro convertible (98-02 differ a bit which will be explained later)

PASSENGERS SIDE-
1. So first disconnect negative battery cable because their will be welding involved and you dont want to fry your wiring or mess up the pcm.

2. Jack up drivers side and put on a jack (High enough for someone to get under and weld the sub frame connectors on).



3. Try to lift the car so that the rear tire does not come of the ground and put wedges on both sides of the tire so that the rear end end will not move or sway.

4. Take out the bolt that i needed to do the sub frame connector install. (Is right under the rear quarter panel in front of the rear tire).



5. Slide sub frame connector in place and put the bolt back and tighten as much as possible while holding the sub frame connector up against the frame with a jack.



6. Weld the front mount.

7. Weld the middle mount.



8. Weld the last mount.



9. Jack up passenger side remove jack stand drop car down. DONE WITH PASSENGER SIDE.

DRIVERS SIDE-

10. Repeat steps 2,3,4,5 on drivers side.

11. But here is where the 95-97 camaro's differ from the 98-02 camaro's. On the 95-97 camaro's the fuel line is in the spot where the sub frame connector goes. On 98-02 they relocated the fuel lines higher up (probably cause people kept hitting or pinching them).



12. So cut the driver sub frame connector 11 or so inches, so that it does not hit the fuel line any more. Now you could probably just weld only two of the mounting spots (cause you just cut off the third one) but i cut a little 2 x 2 1/2 piece of metal to accomidate for the third one.

13. Weld the plate to the end of the sub frame connector.

14. Repeat steps 6,7,8,9 Done with drivers side

And thats pretty much it any questions just ask.

Doesnt the suspension have to loaded when installing SFCs?

dam, thats a lot of work, I have the UMI weld ins with bolt in hardware on my 96 vert, haven't had any problems with them. decide not to weld them in so I could remove them if I sold the car.

yes..the whole car has to be up and level with load before making connections tight or welds.

Yeah I just looked at the mounting instructions to my sfc's and the suspension needs to be loaded before you weld them on.

I have BMR fame connectors they welded in just fine. Used a piece of metal to block the fuel lines.

So, for those of us who can't read between lines very well, this may not be the best how-to to follow?

you can follow this how-to to install your SFC, just remember to have your suspension loaded meaning use a lift that supports the wheels and you should be good.

Don't let the wheels suspend freely in the air.

yup mine i just lifted up the front mostly not the back and still worked.
