  • Parking Brake Adjustment

I'm tosssing this in handling since it deals with braking and such, but it might be just as relative in general tech.

I'm curious how to adjust the parking brake on a 98+ F-body. I traced the cable from the e-brake lever all the way back to the brakes themselves, and couldn't find an adjustment screw like I used on my dad's Grand Prix... How do we adjust ours??

AFAIK, they're self-adjusting, with some sort of spring mechanism inside already. You might try lifting it up high and down, high and down ... perhaps that'll work the spring some?

There is a ratchet like mechanism under the console that seems to be an adjustment point. There is a toothed sprocket attached to the brake arm. It is possible to move that relative to handle, which could reduce the throw on the handle. The problem is that the self adjusting works in both directs. So, when you move the sprocket to tighten it, the next time you release it the original settings return. I haven't figured any way around it yet. If you take off the center console, you can watch the mechanism in action and maybe figure something out that I couldn't.
