95 rims on a 98 question

I am trying to help out a bud with his 1/4 times. he has a 98 with heavy 17X9.5 rims. I have the stock 16X8's. I was told that if we switched them for the track that the older 16X8's Won't fit on the 98 because of slightly larger break system. Is this true? Will they fit?

97+ wheels won't fit on the rear of a <96 car without trimming of the aluminum center ring to fit over the hub. This isn't really a big deal, I had to do this to fit '97 Camaro wheels on my '94 Firebird.

There should be no problem doing what you want to do, older wheels on a newer car that is.

I have the opposite problem. I have a 98 camaro and did a rear swap a couple of months ago. I can not fit my 98 rims onto the 95 rear end that I got. I need to trim down a little to get it to fit right.

yea like others stated you have to shave mayve about a 1/16th off the rim. Its not hard at all if you have the right tools it took me about a minute per rim.

Yup, all you need is a metal file and it's quick and painless. Me, I didn't have one, but I used one "jaw" of regular ol' pliers to grind away at that ring. Even so only took me 5 minutes per wheel. It's just a thin aluminum washer really.
