In 2001-02 I did see several cars that had posi rears without the Y87 package but had traction control anyway. So in short, in order to have ASR/TCS, you NEED the posi rear end, and it most cases, that means you have the Y87 package.
ok now im confused...i have asr on my 2000 camaro 3.8L...i dont think i have the y87 package, how would i tell if i did? and because i have asr that means it came with a posi rear end?

Is the "Low Traction" light the issue? That is part of the ABS, not TCS.

Kind of. I am trying to get ahold of my brother. I remember having to change some tables involving traction control but since he has the programmer, I can't check it. Yes, the 'low traction' makes since w/ the ABS.

They all have the low traction light that comes on when the ABS engages or when the traction control engages. I had a 98 Trans Am without traction control and the low traction light came on even when I did a burn out sometimes. It's just a light that comes on when unequal wheel speed is detected by the ABS sensors. It does not mean you have traction control.

The first year for traction control in V6 F-bodies was 1999.

For ASR/TCS to work properly you must have the posi rear.

I'm seriously suprised that ALL of U posters neglected 2 mention the "2nd Gear Start" feature, which primarily "takes the place" O' the rooty-poot "Traction Control", such as in my Y87. I've never seen a car that had BOTH O' these features, on the same vehicle...so I'm assumin', U either got one, or the other. I'm pretty sure that in my owner's manual, it says the Traction Control was only available on V8 cars...@ least, in '97 that is. Guess they figured that if U knew how 2 actually DRIVE a car, an' it was "only" packin' a V6...startin' out in 2nd would B sufficient. I've driven in some pretty deep snow, several times w/ little difficulty (2nd Gear Start)...however, I used 2 own a Z24 Cavvy that had the T.C. an' spun it out several times...even w/ Front Wheel Drive.
