I was wondering if I would see any gains at the drag strip from going with a v8 rear sway bar? I'm going to be picking up a v8 rear end here pretty soon and didn't know if it would be worth while to get the sway bar also.
If I get the v8 rear springs, will it really jack the back end up on the car? I really don't want that look. Just wondering if it would be that noticeable.

I know for my car the rear springs and swaybar was the same as the v8. I upgraded to the 1LE springs and swaybar and the ride height is the same but the cornering is amazingly better. If you want to improve launching I recommend some LCA's too.

Maybe I'm really off here, but I thought that the v6's (95's anyways) had a 17mm rear sway bar and the v8's of that year had a 19mm. The rear end I'm looking at comes from a 95 Z28. But I'm still wondering about the effect the sway bar will have on the launch.

v6s do have a 17mm rear sway bar, and v8s a 19mm. It woudl help, worth getting shoudl be cheap, I noticed better 60's with my 1LE 21mm rear, so I woudl assume a 19 woudl help, if anything it will handle better on the road.
keep your springs, if you are interested in drag launches. V8 ones will not increas your rear height but will increase your spring rate.

The newer V6's have 15mm rear swaybars, I know my 2000 Camaro did. I believe when the body was updated in 1998 they changed from the 17mm to the 15mm.
your launches will not be affected by a diffrent sway bar foront or rear the only time a sway bar is used is in your turns the thicker the bar hte stiffer the car will be in the turns. kill our cars body roll buy a sway bar front is the most effective. by stiffning up the back you might end up loosing traction in the turns.be carefull slp has the best (1le)

Not neccesarily, a thicker rear sway bar will allow you to launch more straight and try to keep the rear planted better. Ever see a f-body launch hard, and only the fornt right wheel pull, the power is less distributed to the car, and the car kinda jumps cockeyed, thicker sway rear sway bar helps keep it straighter. Keeps the rear from having body roll, having the right rear squat more then the left rear, pulls them both down more equally.
That is why in some drag track pack form some places they have thicker rear sway bars.
Wow they went to a 15mm, no wonder my dad's 2k seems to feel like it has waaay more body roll, guess the spring rates do not make up much over the spring rate. They shoudl have done that form the begining, only have to make one type of spring and 2 sway bars instead of 2 types of springs and 2 types of sway bars, cuts costs.

The 15mm bar will not change body roll by a noticeable amount. It's your imagination (mostly) and the change in the front bar from 30 to 28 (a little).
The main purpose of the rear bar is NOT to reduce roll - it's to tune the weight transfer and thus the handling. The rear bar affects body roll only slightly. The front bar is about ten to twelve times as stiff as the rear - it and the front springs provide almost all of the roll control for the car. This is one reason why people who get a big rear bar are not helping the car like they think.
And the 98 spring rate change at the rear means the change in rear roll stiffness is not even as large as the bar change from 17 to 15 would indicate. Bottom line - no way could the 98 rear bar/spring change cause way more roll.
