I see at lot of you have 275 40 17. I just bought a set of chrome SS wheels which are 17x9 and now I need some tires. I called a couple local tire shops and asked them which size i would need. Some told me 275 40 17 wouldn't work on the front, maybe the back. Some told me 255 40 17 all around.
Maybe they don't know what there talking about?
My current tires on now are 235 55 16.
Will 275 40 17 work? I want the wider tire!!
I ran 285/40/17 with a 2'' drop. Never rubbed or anything. I pulled into my work last week to get his tags for his jeep and he was driving his 96 z28 running 315/35/17 up front and 335/35/17 for the rear, of course the fenders were rolled and the rims had the right offset(this car was sick, setup for auto-x I wish I had my digi!). Get a set of 285/40/17's thats the size the older vette's use. I was running a 255/50/17 front and 285/40/17 rear on 17''x9'' 10 spoke ss wheels.

1= Puke!
2= They will not rub at all. No mods needed, just mount all 4, bolt up and go. </font>[/QUOTE]1-235/55 was the optional tire package that came stock with the car..how can you rip it.
17X9.5s and 275/40/17 all four corners no rubbing problems ever. I have considered running 285s but I think their is a jump in price on them.
EDIT: after looking at some prices, if I needed new tires I'd run 285s all 4 corners.
