  • average price for a shock install?

Just ordered my bilstein hd's today and I've spent the day checking a few of the shops around where I live and the average price seems to be 250+ dollars for the install. Seems a bit steep to me, one of the shops told me I'd need a realignment afterwards which would be another 60! Which to me doesn't seem right, getting a realignment that is, I didn't think shocks really affected that anyhow. I just wanted to see what you guys have payed for your install, unless of course you did it yourself. I would be installing at a friends house but his tools/jacks etc. are all in storage and we don't really have a good place to do it.

HAHAH! That is disgusting! My friend! My friend came down to my shop and he bought hotchkis springs, got them installed, and we installed the shocks(he already bought) for a grand total of 400. 250 to install is a rip off!

That's what I thought as well, may have to drive to Austin and check some places there.

My front strut install cost $200, including tax. It did not require an alignment.

i'd shop around for a better price. it should only take 2 hours if the shop knows what they're doing. i know a guy here who installed all 4 of my shocks and aligned the front and rear (i have an adj. phr) for $100 cash. he owns quite a few f-bodies so he hooks up fellow f-bodies.

I have shocks, springs, and sway bars going in next week if the transmission is fixed, and I was quoted $200 for that. the guy said it usually takes less time than the book suggested so I may be looking at $150 for all of it. and I am having tires put on at the same time so the alignment is free w/ the tires. you are getting ripped off.

I agree, you're getting ripped. Mine was $175 for shocks, springs, and alignment.

its really easy to do. the only special tool you need is a spring compressor from Autozone which they give you free. It'll take about an hour per sturt and the shocks about an hour for both.

No pepboys that I know of around me, but I need to find a better place in Austin perhaps because after reading yall's responses I'm kind of disconcerted about the prices I was quoted...friggin vampire mechanics! Geh, the search continues. If only I had the means to do it myself...
