  • Front rotors - surface cracking? Advice?

    '(94 firebird 3.4)
Just got the car back from a front suspension overhaul, the shop advised I should think about replacing the rotors because of what looks like surface cracking (see photo). Thing is, they're hardly worn (don't know how long they've been on the car, I've only had it a year) - the surface is only a little lower than the unworn outer rim. Sorry the pic is a little out of focus but you can see what I mean.
    Any ideas what this is?:(
    Many thanx

Minor surface cracking shouldn't be a big deal. If you are worried about it have them turned. Keep an eye on then incase you get any large cracks. Large cracks can lead to rotors shattering and thats never fun.

If you get really worried about it go ahead and get some and do the installation yourself. It's really not that hard. It's common sense when it comes to which bolts you have to remove. The only hard part is getting the frozen bolts undone.

Get new rotors. What you are seeing there is heat checking. The metal has been fatigued. I had a rotor crack before, it's not fun.
