As an educator, I would have expected better from you. I would have thought you to take a more open view of your surroundings. Its already apparent that if you know only one language, and its not English, that they probably aren't going to go far anyway, no need to beat people up for it.

Greek is the official language of Greece and people there who dont speak Greek live just fine whether they speak english or w.e

Ok, I can accept that, because that does make sense. I can't say Clinton was a good pres or bad, really don't care. I know the economy was decent, probably not managed to its best, but everyone was working, traveling, spending. This recession sucks.

Shirl, I reread your post three times, I can't see anything but someone who is being closeminded, probably from teaching bratty ****ing kids day in and day out, while they suck the life out of you. You've probably become intolerant over the years, which means that you are simply a product of your environment. Im not really upset with you as much as I have pity for you, pity for becoming weak and blind. I will say this again, I am and always will be opposed to a govt who will force someone to change their own ethnicity and roots inorder to appease the majority, excluding extreme situations. And learning English is not an extreme situation. They don't want to learn it, then there are consequences involved in that. The VAST majority in the country speak it, only the poor and immigrant don't know English. If they want to improve their life, they will learn it on their own accord. Gotta let people evolve on their own terms, not the gov'ts.

Well, thanks for clearing up the OBVIOUS that was already mentioned. Of course there are consequences. Consequences in COMMUNICATION. Which is what I will re-iterate from my first post, since you couldn't understand. We teach our children using the ENGLISH LANGUAGE. Although, there are foreign language courses offered and "English as a Second Language" courses for students who do not speak English. But thanks for the lame attempt at calling me "weak and blind" when in fact I hold very high standards for all of my students no matter what nationality they are. All 154 of them which I see everyday, which is probably more people than you see in a week.

My daughter started kindergarden this year and because of all the illegal immigrants in my county they are making it mandatory that she starts learning spanish.

Just FYI, I am not exagerrating about anything in my last sentance.

I am indiffrent to this idea but flew off the handle when I found out if she talks about god she has to stand on fence at recess. I'm not real religious and dont go to church so I dont know where she gets the ideas from, but if she knows about it and wants to talk let her. She's 5!! I'm tired of the majority having to conform to the minority.

Let the majority speak english and the others struggle in the tobacco fields.

is it just me...or am I the only one that remembers all the negative press about clinton? just because the man version of scooby doo was president at a time when NOTHING happened does NOT make him a good president. Electing his wife is not the same as electing him. She'll most likely back this retardation of English not being to official language. As far as I'm concerned, every other civilized country in the WORLD teaches they children English...why? because betwine America and Britain, we ARE the economic center of everything. For businessmen across the world it would be fatal not to speak English. but we sit here and require our children to learn spanish so illegals can survive. I don't ****ing think so, that like having a thief break into your home steal your stuff and have the court tell you that you should have made him a sandwich. Half of our economic issues, such as the value of the dollar, comes from illegals sending our money back to their hell hole country. that why the Euro is doing so good, no matter what European country you send it to its still circulating in the same economy.

I say build the damn wall, send em all back, require English skills to stay more than 2 months, make English the official language, and for god sake don't vote for hillary

Is this the actual reason, or just your speculation? It has been clinically proven that the younger one is, the easier it is for them to learn a second, or even 3rd language, so this new requirement may have came about regardless of the current political/social situation. However, if that is the actual reason, then please provide a link to either your Board of Education's website or the legislation that says something tantamount to "Becuz of all dem MEXICANS are suckin the life out of OUR contry, we gotta learn thur gibbajabba so weez can kno wen tere gonna shank us"

For decades, the public school system has required children to take science classes even if they have no aspirations to be a scientist, or to take literature classes even if they have no desire to do any work with publications or book-writing. This renaissance-esque system has been in effect for as long as there's been public education, but now that they're adding another facet to it, the system is completely debunk?

The paticular county I live in is overran with illegal mexicans. There is a constant uproar about it. They cant ask them if there illegal so the cops hands are tied. Heres a quick search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...gal+immigrants

The hospital in town actually had to shut down the maternity wing because there were so many people having babys and no way to pay it. No medical card and no insurance.

When we enrolled our daughter we had to fill out a paper. If you awnsered all 3 questions yes, you were to turn it in, if not disregaurd. Heres the questions,

1. Did you just move to Shelby county in the last 3 years?
2. Did you move here seeking agricultural work?
3. Does your household primarily speak a language at home other than english?

I thought it was rediculous to ask these questions but its "normal, to help sort things out"

There may not be a direct statement on BOE website saying thats why their teaching Spanish but thats like saying I'm fat but these chips have 0 trans fat in them. I shouldn't be fat. KY is ranked 36th in school systems across the nation and Shelby county is not exactly #1 in the state if you get my drift.

A "Board of Education website" has nothing to do with curriculum guidelines. It's the state that dictates the school's requirements. Although, there should be a curriculum guide in place to refer to on the BOE's site.

The philosophy behind requiring children to take a variety of courses is so that they develop into a well-rounded individual.
