Stock Car racing Magazine had an article about how much harder circle dirt track racing was than asphalt. That got me thinking - which type of racing is harder, dirt track or asphalt road courses?

Re: Which type of racing takes the most skill?
I said offroad because of rally. The conditions are constantly changing and the course is barely wide enough for a car in most situations and then they take the car sideways around a blind turn at 90+ mph. Those guys have amazing skills, balls of steel, and are probably clinically insane.
Baja is also pretty crazy. When was the last time someone setup a trap or tried to car jack someone on a road course.

Case in point: Sebastian Loeb. 4 time world rally champion; first time driving at lemans he got pole, and nearly won it; and he won the race of champions.

I think the hard part of circle track racing is finding the advantage, being precise every lap, and finding a way to pass.

Re: Which type of racing takes the most skill?
I have to agree that dirt racing is very tough, but only in specific areas. Rally and the Dakar being the hardest and takes the most effort in order to keep the cars on the road. I voted the asphalt road circuit because some of the corners on different courses can be very difficult, i.e. the carousel corner at Road America, or the corkscrew at Laguna Seca. I wish I could vote both, but I cant.

If we were voting based on balls, I'd go with the Pikes Peak Challenge.

If you're taking most balls, rally. But most SKILL?? Possibly dirt track racing, like WoO. There are points here and there that are tough to do in rally, but for the most part it bores the hell out of me.1995 Pontiac Firebird

Rally. Same stage might have dirt, loose gravel, pavement all combined. Same driver, car, tires, setup. These guys have to adapt quickly, and the course is never the same twice.Drivetrain Moderator - "There are no stupid questions, only stupid people!"

For a good dirt stage rally , check out the following Pikes peak short: "Climb Dance"
And for those not familiar with Sebastian Loeb here's a video...Sebastian Loeb<a href=\"http://www.cardomain.com/id/vracer111\" target=\"_blank\">My \'98 Camaro</a><br /><br /><a href=\"http://www.honda-tech.com/garage?cmd=viewcar&id=1223\" target=\"_blank\">My \'98 Tacoma</a>
