Re: Motorcycle permit...
If I were you I would just go take the MSF class. You learn a lot and then once you are done with the course you go take your permit test at the DMV and show them you took the course and you get your license instead of just a permit. ALso the MSF course test at the end is a lot easier than the test you would have to take to get your license at the DMV. Course consist of 1 day in the classroom and 2 days riding. The classroom portion will teach you everything you need to know for the permit test.
If you don't want to do that class and just get you permit. Go grab a book at your DMV and read it. Simple as that.-Travis-

1999 Hugger Orange Camaro-stock
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/763509

Re: Motorcycle permit...
I wouldnt reccomend taking the test unless you have a small "turnable" cruiser 250CC or less.
If you have a sportbike, dont even try... it's nearly impossible to complete / pass.
I agree with hugger, honestly your best bet is to take the MSF courses, they are free around here, you pay $20 up front, but you get it back or you can donate it.
They provide the bikes, the trainer's and give you your certificate there on the spot.*Matt

Re: Motorcycle permit...
They do fill up fast, but something most people dont know, is they take walk-ins... If you find out what location they use, you can show up the day of the training course and they have no-shows, so if they have 3 no-shows they will take 3 walk-ins.*Matt

Re: Motorcycle permit...
Yeah, my grandpa is a fairly young man (58) and has been riding motorcycles since he was 15. He took the DMV test down here when he moved from Ohio and despite his 30+ years of experience (at the time) he didn't pass the test because he has a cruiser, not a crotch rocket.

Re: Motorcycle permit...
all i need is a permit and its just a 20 question test and you just have to get 14 of them right. its 30 bucks and its pretty much like a car permit test. i cant drive at night or have a passenger with just a permit but i can still drive it.
i have no money for a bike anyway so i might not even bother getting it

No riding after dark and no doubling...... though I've ridden at night with only a permit..... it's hard to pass up the oppertunity.
The learner's expires 90 days from issuance in WV, so you might want to check with your DMV to see how long it lasts. Also, you cannot go back and retest for the learner's again. You're options then are License Exam, MSF Course, or ride illegally......
I'm taking the MSF Course in May. I'll post up some pictures of my bike later...... My starter bike is a 2007 Gixxer 750. I want my license too; it's $200 for the MSF course (not refunded at the end of the course :(), and like $30 to take the written test for your permit. I'm just going to get my permit right now and then take the MSF when I get the cash. I've ridden before, and know the ins and outs of riding, so I'm sure I can pass the test. Actually, there's a practice test somewhere online. I took it and got a 38/40. I'd much rather do the MSF course than the one at the DMV because of the knowledge gained. I know people who have had their license for years and had to retake the course for some reason or another and learned new things. Heck, some couldn't even pass it (they all have crotch rockets).~97 3.8L V6 Camaro~

Re: Motorcycle permit...
I took the course and thought it was pretty fun since I had never been on a bike before. The course here was like $150 if I remember right, not refunded, and then it was another $75 to get the endorsement put on the license at the dmv.
I started on a 91 ninja 600, course probably saved me from killing myself on that thing, teaches pretty good on how to be a defensive rider, some good info in there
