did he recommend it or just a waist of money. There is not a lot of info on this product, so any other info would be great. mid 14 is what i am looking for any way on all motor.

you can throw a cam in, some springs and just the other minor stuff needed with a cam and run low 14's/13's with the cam only.

you can take your own cam, get heads ported and stuff, and make your own setup for as much as the SSM kit costs, and be runnin mid 13's with tuning.

okay... just a reminder that I am new to racing and limited on performance products. Currently I have borla exhaust, rk headers, whisper lid with kn filter, ram air, msd wires, and air temp module. At the 1/4 track I ran a 9.7 my best. Say I buy the cam and not buying the ssm kit. What other stuff do you mean by "just the other minor stuff needed with a cam and run low 14's/13's with the cam only." can you or anybody else show me step by step on getting these times.

hang out on this forum; you will get plenty of info if you just read a little bit.

the minor stuff he's talking about consists of valve springs, lifters, gaskets and such that will be necessary to install a cam.

you will also need quite a few bolt-ons and you have nothing in the way of suspension, which is crucial to running 13s. you have a way to go before you start worrying about a cam.

This is what happens when people throw money at a car instead of actually researching and effectively modding their car. You should be able to get the car into the 14s WITHOUT doing anything internal. Then move on to internal things. This is a guy after your own heart, buy car.. add nos (isn't fast enough) ... add supercharger (still isn't fast enough) hmm maybe I should get an intake or exhaust?

ummm...it wasnt my car...and i asked him why he didnt just run a 50 - 75 shot for like $500 instead of doing internal engine mods...and he said he blew the orignal motor running nitrous...so he added these mods since he had to pull the motor anyway to do the swap..and from the sounds of it he wasnt done yet...in my case i used to show my car a lot...so my mods were just as much for show as they were for go (why i spent the extra $200 or so to get the chrome SC instead of satin) ...just because people get their times in a way other than you would've done it doesnt mean they know nothing about cars or are just throwing money at them....IMO

the claims seem a bit broad to me. saying that the combo will run 13.8 to 14.8 doesnt' really say anything.
for the money that such a kit prolly costs, plus teh time to install everything it would be easier to add a good gear to your car and do common bolt ons.
the total cost would be much lower and the results similar without all the downtime involved in major engine work.

i have a 96 w/3.08 gears and no mods accept punchet out cat, dual exhaust muffler and a home made cool air intake i was runnin 15.3 spinning. I have 150,000+ miles on my car too.

with a 3300 converter 3.83 gears, cam and some drag radials, i would bet a $100 i was in 14.3 range if not better. weight reduction, P&P heads/intake more compression if i knew how to drive good i am pretty sure i could see 13's (BIG MAYBE)

I have been wondering for a while why everytime a company does an engine build up or sells parts for the 3800 they cant show dyno numbers from the engine not ina car? I read car craft magazines and super chevy and when they do build ups or test parts they give engine dyno numbers not just guesses at what a car would run with that in it. I really wonder why.

because crank horsepower doesn't really mean as much to a body-specific market as RWHP...

plus, it's a lot less labor intensive to dyno a carbureted motor than a fuel injected motor, believe me.

and how much (or little) did that car weigh?
