• How much for a nice sounding system?

Alright, so since I might be getting a part-time job while still going to school, I am wondering how much it would cost me for a decent pair of subs that will provide some bass. A few questions...

1. For a beginner (never had subs before), what should I start out with? Pair of 10s, 12s?

2. What are some decent subs that put of a good amount of bass?

3. Are amplifiers usually the most expensive part of a sound system?

4. Would it be smart to put the sub(s) in a box behind the rear seats (under the window)? I really don't want to spend the money on a T-top box, they are quite expensive for what they are (damn the millhouse box being discontinued).

5. What are some good brands for the average person looking to upgrade their sound system?

I already have a pair of Infitities for the front, and stock speakers by the passenger seats (they put out a decent amount of bass), along with an aftermarker head unit (Pioneer DEH-P6600). So I figure the next step is subs, I'm just confused on what a beginner should get.

My personal opinion, a single 10" in the stealth box will provide a "decent" amount of bass and is more then adequate for a well rounded system. If you don't think that'll be enough, try to snag a 12" stealth box somewhere or maybe try building one yourself.

Now, if you're looking to actually bump around town and cave in some chests.... a pair of vented 12"s is a must. :D

As far as actual recommendations, you might wanna search around more. Everyone has there favorite brand or own opinion. Money is always an issue. I think the very cheapest I'd go would be the Kicker CompVR series. Like 50 bucks new off Ebay. Next in line would probably be the Alpine Type-R for like $95, then probably an Elemental Designs K-series for about $120. I'm just slingin out names. There are a TON out there. Maybe some a better deal then those I have listed. (Dayton?) Each subwoofer different for each application and wallet size. Decide just how much bass you want and how much you're willing to spend. We can help you after that.

The only problem is, I probably can't get them off Ebay because I'm not 18 and don't have a credit card. Also, my parents don't like ordering stuff off the internet, they still think its not safe and **** like that. Does that mean I'll probably be spending twice what I need to?

... well... in a word... yes. But on the plus side, you'll be buying from a fully authorized distributor. Meaning all your items will come with full factory warranties........but then again, you really are paying twice the amount. You could buy another one you rich muthaf#cka! I'm Rick James!lol :D
Alpine SWR-1242D from Best Buy $220
Alpine SWR-1242D from Ebay $110 shipped to your door
Kicker CVR12 from Circuit City $150
Kicker CVR12 from Ebay $75 shipped to your door
So yes, you're actually paying twice the amount. Ouch. Just how much money you looking to spend? Maybe see if a local dealer can cut you a deal on a JL Stealth box with 10W3v2?

I'm not 18. Even though I use my mom's account, I still have my own account on eBay. And use Money Orders. That's what I use for everything because I don't have a credit card at 17 either!

Would 2 12in L7s be too much? Or maybe 2 12in L5s? I heard they were good subs, and I would really like 2 12in subs. I will most likely be purchasing a T-top box from subthump, but $270 is quite a bit for just a box. And what kinda of amp would I need to power these? 2 mono amps, or a 2-channel amp? I'm very new to car audio, so bare with me. My parents will probably be buying the subs for me for Christmas, but I have to buy the box, amp(s), and wiring. Will I be looking to spend $750+ for all this? Oh yeah, and my parents are considering buying from ebay, so I may be able to get everything cheaper.

How much would you be willing to let that go for? Again, I'm not sure if I'm getting L5s or L7s yet, so it might be a while before I get an amp.

$220 shipped, its brand new out of the box.

And it would push either sub(s) just fine.

IMHO

Don't go with 2 12s

Unless your trying to make huge bass system there is no need.

I have a real rounded system all Infinty speakers.
10in Steath box with Infinity Perfect 10 Powered by a 4 way 600 watt infinity amp. I am only using two of the channels bridged and the other are waiting for more speakers.

I also have a set of components in front powered by a 2 channel an alpine amp.

It loud enough to where it probably is damaging my hearing and I have enough bass to thump my chest without putting me into cardiac arrest.

I have had two 12s before. The novelty will run out and you will turn them down so far, just so you can hear the lyrics.

Components 150
Amp 150
Sub from ebay 100
Amp 100
Box from subthump 120
I am waiting for another set of components for rear. $150

That is all around 800 and you will have more better all around system.

Nothing bothers me more than getting into a somebodys car and he has set of unfiltered 12 in a banpass box playing from 50hz - 25,000 hz
