I'm wanting a good, yet fairly cheap set-up. I'm looking for 2 subs, either 10s or 12s (preferably 12's) and am amp. I already have one 10 in my car along with a small amp, but I just sold it, cuz I want more. I'll be making my own enclosure for it (probably a simple sealed enclosure), and be installing it myself. Any suggestions? I was hoping to stay under $250, but if needed, I could possibly up it to $350. I don't want record breaking subs, just somethign that'll hit nice and hit harder than my current 10" JL Audio sub (it's in the Truck PowerWedge enclosure, and hooked upto a Clarion 200W amp). So any suggestions? I was thinking Type R's would be good. I'm looking for SQ, while still being able to rattle windows

Re: good, yet cheap set-up?
Please give specifics on your current sub and amp (model numbers).
I'm thinking that if you upgrade the amp, you may get what you're looking for.
But did you say you sold the whole setup?
Budget aside... If you're making your own enclosure, you could go with multiple 10's, 2-3 12's or maybe 1-2 15's.
For $350 you are really limiting yourself. I also shot for a decent budget setup, but good SQ subs that can get loud are EXPENSIVE.
I went for a used Hifonics Atlantis X amp - OLD amp that put out 600x1 4ohm bridged and was 1ohm stable. I found it on eBay for around $200. I searched long and hard for that high current beast. It eventually died of old age (heat vs. old electronics) and I threw in a Hifonics Brutus BX1605D (1 ohm stable again). The D class amp does not dim my headlights, but it does hit hard (albeit, not as clean sounding by any means)...
The BX1605D has since been phased out by some new design and that goes for around $250 on ebay.
My weakest link has been my sub which is an Audiobahn ALUM15X. I got that sub for $110 shipped after they phased it out with a new model. The sub looks great, but claims to handle 1100 watts rms, 2200 peak. It has dual 5.5ohm voice coils so it is wired down to a 2.75 ohm load. I've heard reports of the sub failing at 1500watts, so I think the power of my amp/sub combo is comfortably matched. It hits hard and sounds good.
If I had to change my setup, I'd run a higher quality sub wired at 4ohm to hide my budget amp.
You'll notice that some companies will put out some fancy chrome overpriced stuff one year, then when the new stuff comes out, the old stuff sells for 1/3 the price all over the net. It doesnt hurt to visit the message board at caraudio.com before dropping a few bills on what you may think is a great deal.Last edited by BobDoLe; 10-18-2006, 12:42 AM.

Re: good, yet cheap set-up?
Current set-up:
Clarion amp: Product # APX201.2. 2 Channels, 50W X 2 into 4 ohms or 110W X 2 into 2 ohms. Not entireluy sure how I have it set-up right now (came already in the car, so I just went with it) More Info
JL Audio Sub: one 10W1v2-4 in a sealed wedge enclosure, 150W continuous handling, and 4 ohm mono impedance More Info
And this set-up is sold. I actually sold it to my cousin, and he came by yesterday and gave me the cash. $100 sound like a good price for it?~97 3.8L V6 Camaro~

Re: good, yet cheap set-up?
If i were you, i would get the following, in this order:
HU-ive had good luck with pioneer
front Speakers(components would be ideal but a good 6.5" coax is fine)
amp(for the front speakers) Usacoustics is a good budget amp, see if you can find one on ebay
sub(a single 12" should give you plenty of bass)
amp ( aclass d amp for the sub would be great)
If you want you could get a 4 channel amp and bridge the back 2 channels to the sub and front 2 to the front speakers.
You can find pretty good prices on used equipment at a local store or ebay.
Just my 2 cents, i run the above system layout and it sounds great

Re: good, yet cheap set-up?
I don't know much about fosgate speakers, just what I heard in the local stereo store, but fosgate amps ROCK! I had a 400@2 and bridged down to 1 ohm and it ran stable... hot, but stable. Had that thing for almost 5 years that way till I sold it needing money. =( Now I want to kick myself for it. But anyways... Fosgate is a great brand.... but thats my opinion.2000 Camaro 3.8 http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2040383

It sounded nice, so I figured the other one may not sound bad. Then, I thought puttin two of them in my car, would sounds really good. I think they'd be fairly loud, and decent speakers, and the price is nice. I was thinking two of those in a custom sealed box along with this amp > AMP~97 3.8L V6 Camaro~

OK, I'm looking into some Type-R's from eBay. I've got a question though, how're AudioBahn subs? If I don't get the ones on eBay, I'm looking at either Rockford Fosgate or AudioBahn.~97 3.8L V6 Camaro~
