Re: How many cylinders can I safely run on?

Interesting point brought up on another forum...if I pulled the injector and plug, that cylinder would pump air into the exhaust pipe and therefore dilute the exhaust gases...maybe this might work...

Also, I already upped my idle to 1100 rpm (max is 1200 or the test boots you out). If I go higher an 1100rpm when the rpm bounces I risk popping out of that 1200rpm range

Mother f*cker... I just failed lol... Bad

      Results:

      2500rpm:
      Hc- 2485; limit is 200
      C0%: 8.83; limit 1
      Dilution: 10.55; limit 6

      Idle
      Hc- 4042; limit 200
      Co%- 4.66; limit 1
      Dilution 6.61; limit 6

F*ck... I ran the car on 5 cylinders, I didnt have much time to play with the tune, as a result the afr richened out during the test to 12.8-13.1, which is rich... So I know I can go back and really lean it out more... But do you guys think it will reduce these numbers by 40x the numbers?? Like Im wayyyyy off...

Should have left all the cylinders running. Go to your buddy with the exhaust gas analyzer and play wit the tune so you can see what helps. They are checking Dilution, so they will see if you have disabled cylinders. Adding and air pump may help. 14.7 AFR will burn the cleanest. Retarding the timing will also help.

ya that's what I am going to have to do, I tried jumping the gun on this one and it killed me.

I should retard the timing or add timing? I was commanding about 27* for the test...

Re: How many cylinders can I safely run on?

Retarding the timing helps with lowering emissions. There is a threshold were it no longer helps so you will have to play with it to find the sweet spot. Raising the idle helps clean it up as well.

I'm scared to put in a cam now Mike :omg: It doesn't seem right that the readings are so high. I had no idea that a cam can increase emissions that much, although your cam is quite aggressive.

Well the 99TA failed the rollers bad last November.

But January was the dawn of a new era for OBD2 and she passed the plug and play test today:)

Well my eyes are open for a good body f-body to pickup... The question is... If it ends up being an ls1 for cheap... Do I do a reverse swap and take out the ls1 in favour of the 3800... That's the golden question if thats what ends up happenig...

Only swap if its a roller,if its a complete running LS car its already got God's engine.

I'll take the LS1 off your hands Mike ;) My brother lives 15 minutes from the track. We'll swap the motors in his shop.
