Re: Fuel Mileage... How do I restore-improve?

    Door code says GU6 = 3.42 gears

Not sure how much I trust it, one of the door codes indicate a monsoon sound system with cassette. In truth there is no monsoon amp and head unit is CD. The car appears stock with no mods.

A true SLP RS will have an RPO code of Y3B. Yup thats the code for the 3.42's. You can also seafoam your car. It REALLY helped mine. BTW nice car. :)

So, I pulled all the plugs. They looked fine.

Removed the wires from the coil packs and there it was, the connection for cyl. 1 was fouled. I mean it was dirty and the connection was loose. I tightened it up. Used electrolytic grease on both ends of all the plug wires.

Took the car out for a spin and WOW, I can't believe the engine was running smooth before with that connection so bad.

Just filled the tank so we'll see about the mpg in a couple weeks.

I meant mine says Y3F, you're probably right about the code for the SLP RS

Isn't there a list of the codes and their meanings somewhere on this site? I know i've seen a detailed list. If not here, then google.

Could you jack up the rear tires so that the car is always going downhill?

                      ;)

Re: Fuel Mileage... How do I restore-improve?

I switched my oil recently from Mobil1 Full Synthetic, 5W30 to Mobil1 Advanced Fuel Economy. My first fillup showed an improvement...I've been averaging 23.99 to 24.5 mpg these summer months, Mobil 87 octane, and with this past fillup, it was 26.7mpg. (Filled up ~12 gallons, went 326 miles)

I was kinda surprised, given 2 runs along the highway, one of them at > 85mph for a few minutes. I normally cant go more than 300 miles if I speed even once between fillups.

I'm going to put this on the wife's minivan too.

can an exhaust leak cause bad gas mileage?

i think 1 of my headers are leaking. and no other leaks until it reachs past the rear seat.

are ebay o2 sensors any good?

                            http://shop.ebay.com/items/__oxygen-..._scZ1QQ_sopZ15

if that dont work then type "oxygen sensor 02 firebird" on ebay
theres alot that are 20/each with 5 shipping.
cheaper than 50-100 at the store
